ABOUT US

ROTORUA TOURISM INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP 2025

The Rotorua Tourism Industry Partnership (RTIP) is a voluntary, elected tourism board that represents Rotorua tourism businesses, including activities, attractions, and accommodations. RTIP is an Incorporated Society that serves as a voice for lobbying and advocacy and functions as an internally funded marketing vehicle for the local tourism industry.

RTIP, initiated by industry leaders, was established to provide additional funding for the marketing and development of Rotorua as a visitor destination. In response to the challenges posed by COVID-19 and a membership fee holiday in 2020, the RTIP board swiftly transitioned into an advocacy role. Despite these challenges, the board directed funds to support domestic campaigns and Crankworx.

Advocacy achievements:

- Policy Change Advocacy: RTIP successfully engaged with the council to advocate for changes in central and local government policies related to the placement of homeless individuals within tourism accommodation. This advocacy has led to positive outcomes and improvements in this regard.

- Mayoral Engagement: RTIP engaged with Mayoral Candidates, resulting in a renewed commitment to engage with the Rotorua Economic Development (RED) initiative. This includes increased participation from RotoruaNZ CEO and more RTIP involvement in the marketing office.

- Tourism Priority: Through these efforts, RTIP strengthened the council's focus on tourism. They received assurances that tourism is a top priority and will be treated as such. The board is committed to holding the council accountable for this commitment.

These achievements highlight RTIP's impactful work in advocacy and collaboration to benefit Rotorua's tourism industry.

Although independent, RTIP works closely with RotoruaNZ to ensure the Rotorua tourism sector is represented through the region’s tourism strategy. RTIP considers this as a high priority deliverable.

Board members are elected on a three-year cycle.

OUR STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

“Championing Collaboration”

RTIP will proactively lead and nurture a strong, united tourism and hospitality sector by fostering collaboration across the visitor economy and RotoruaNZ. We will strengthen connections between businesses, iwi, government entities and the community to ensure alignment, shared priorities, and impactful outcomes that benefit Rotorua as a whole.

This will be achieved by:

  • Ensuring that RTIP membership is engaged, heard, aligned and on board the Rotorua waka.

  • Communicating to RTIP membership the value of partnership through the economies of scale of working together.

OUR STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

“Advocacy and Influence”

RTIP will serve as a trusted voice for Rotorua’s tourism and hospitality industry, advocating for the sector’s interests at both local and central government levels. We will influence policy, planning, and funding decisions to support a regenerative, inclusive and prosperous future for the Rotorua visitor economy.

This will be achieved by:

  • Engaging with local and central government elected and non-elected members, advocating for Rotorua tourism and hospitality.

  • Showing the value of public and private partnership to achieve inter-generational prosperity.
